Orange County Environmental Protection Division

Our mission is to serve our community by protecting the environment through education, participation and conservation. The Environmental Protection Division protects Orange County’s air, land and water resources. A team of environmental specialists, biologists and engineers issues environmental permits, conducts inspection, monitors air quality, regulates petroleum storage tanks and the disposal and cleanup of chemicals, reviews development plans, permits private landfills, protects wetlands, monitors and improves water quality in our lakes through sampling and projects and engages in community outreach.

Our Youth programs include ongoing volunteer opportunities through Orange County’s environmental Intern and Volunteer Program for family, youth and young adults. Our Junior Naturalist Program: an educational workshop for youth, K-12, meets the third Saturday of the month. We hold an Annual (themed) Calendar Contest which invites OC students, and this year – adults, to enter visual art media that communicates environmental stewardship and involvement for juried contest which results in an annual calendar. 2016 contest requests specifically photos of Florida native plants, wildlife and/or vistas.
