Colt Creek State Park offers great opportunities for those interested in learning about fishing, kayaking, or canoeing. Located in Lakeland, Colt Creek has three natural streams and three lakes that are ideal for fishing. Common fish that fishermen can expect to see include largemouth bass, catfish, and bluegill. The parkโs 3 lakes, Mac Lake, Middle Lake, and Little Lake are approximately 26, seven, and three acres, respectively. At Mac Lake, visitors can also enjoy fishing from the accessible dock. Bathrooms and water fountains are located near each of the lakes, as well as parking spaces and picnic areas.
Although there is no swimming area at the park, you can still experience our lakes and wetlands from a kayak or canoe. Mac Lake is ideal for beginners or those new to kayaking since paddlers wonโt have to worry about strong river currents or getting lost. Mac Lake can be up to 60 feet deep in some spots, and life jackets are provided for program participants to wear. The calm waters and vast space provide a perfect setting to practice paddling techniques and get comfortable on your canoe or kayak. During your trip you may also see American Alligators, turtles, and different kinds of wading birds including herons, storks, ibises, and cranes. After a day of paddling and fishing, feel free to enjoy a picnic in one of our picnic areas, visit our butterfly garden, explore nearly 15 miles of trails, or spend the night in the family campground.
