The Gulf Stream Council, chartered in 1914, currently serves over 6800 scouts and 2500 adult volunteers in a seven-county area including Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Glades, Okeechobee and Hendry counties in southeast Florida. Scouting is a year-round educational program designed to accomplish the aims of character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness through fun, adventure, service, achievement and leadership training. Scouting builds character and community through a variety of activities including camping, canoeing, hiking, sailing, community service projects, and more. These hands-on activities instill a sense of confidence, preparedness and honor in our kids. Contrary to popular belief, scouting isn’t just for boys and young men. Scouting also offers its Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA programs to young ladies, and the Venturing and Exploring programs are specifically geared to young women and men, ages 13-20.
Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation is located near Tequesta in Martin County and includes 640 acres along the south edge of Jonathan Dickinson State Park and on the Loxahatchee River — a State of Florida Historic Trail. It features a dining hall, pool, challenge course, climbing tower, ranges, an amphitheater (directly on the Loxahatchee River), the new Lassiter Training Center, and numerous campsites. All of the campsites have hot water shower/bathroom facilities, pavilions with electricity and fire rings. Our access to natural land and water ecosystems allows the Gulf Stream Council to partner with organizations such as the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network to provide scouts with robust educational and practical opportunities in fishing, archery and boating.
