Mahogany Youth Corporation

Our mission is to empower youth and expand their possibilities through teaching them to fish and enjoy the outdoors. We give them an opportunity to develop skills and enhance their self-esteem. We also aim to provide exceptional experiences for youth, teaching life skills to stay off drugs, in school and out of gangs. Recently we have added more boating, snorkeling and scuba certification.

Since 1994, we fished with 1000s of children; over 3,000 youth have been served just last year. Mahogany Youth Corporation is well respected in the community and has been featured on Channel 10 news, in the Miami Herald, and Miami Times newspapers. We provide in school, out of school, afterschool, and Saturday programs in South Florida Parks in Miami and Broward County, Miami Dade Schools and to Non-Profit organizations. Mahogany Youth Corporation teaches “Hooked on Fishing, not on Drugs”. Fishing events reinforce a lifelong connection with fishing that improves family communication, self-esteem, and creates a feeling of responsibility to the community. Drug prevention techniques, peer pressure and gang resistance skills are learned. They explore careers and plan their futures. Our peer to peer mentor program promotes mentoring and positive relationships. The lifelong skills that are learned at Mahogany Youth Corporation can never be taken away.
