Circle B Bar Reserve and Polk County Environmental Lands Program

The goal of the Environmental Lands Program is to protect Polk County’s water, wildlife, and wilderness through acquisition and management of environmentally sensitive lands. The program also provides education and recreation of these lands when determined appropriate. To date, more than 25,000 acres have been purchased through the program. Currently eleven properties are open to the public for passive outdoor recreation; activities allowed at each site differ and range from hiking, photography, wildlife viewing, to horseback riding. Polk County opened the doors to Polk’s Nature Discovery Center at Circle B Bar Reserve, a nature center that provides environmental information to visitors of all ages. The center was built to act as the hub to disseminate information to visitors and residents about all of Polk County’s water and natural resources.
