Bill Sadowski Park and Nature Center

Named after William “Bill” Sadowski, who played a key role as a legislator and member of the South Florida Water Management District in advocating stronger protection for the state`s fragile environment. Bill Sadowski Park and Nature Center is a 33 acre park that offers three distinct habitats: pineland, tropical hardwood hammock, and a drained Everglades slough (wetland). A self-guided nature trail gives visitors insight to the various plant communities and animals that frequent the park. Solution holes and Karst limestone formations are visible along the way. Encompassed within the park grounds are also a native tree arboretum, and a bird watching area.

Programing and features offered at the park include: EcoAdventure tours, continuous nature study and outreach programs for all ages, including school-aged children and organized groups, nature trails and bird-watching site, fishing instruction and tours, Boy Scout programs, family campfires, site of geological formations; including ancient sloughs with limestone rock formations, pinnacle arches and solution holes, fishing in nearby canal, picnic shelters, tables and restrooms and canoe rentals. There is also an observatory site for the Southern Cross Astronomical Society, which conducts free star-gazing programs with telescopes, lectures, slide shows and more.
