Jobs and Volunteering Opportunities

Spend summer outdoors teaching campers new recreational skills while instilling a love of nature in the next generation! Summer camp runs throughout the months of June and July and training for summer staff starts as early as the second week of May. Applications are accepted starting in January.  

Note: You must be at least 19 years old to apply. 

We rely on a well-rounded, dedicated team to offer high quality program throughout the year. We hire a wide range of roles from education specialists to maintenance assistants who keep our facility running. If you are interested in joining our team, we’d love to hear from you! 

EYCC is always looking for dedicated, passionate volunteers to assist in camp functions. Volunteer opportunities can range from educational programs, facility cleaning, grounds keeping, food service, and much more!

Group Leaders are EYCC’s version of the classic camp counselor. Their primary focus is camper supervision while assisting activity Instructors. Group Leaders live in cabins with campers providing a safe and comfortable  environment. The best part about being a Group Leader is getting to experience a wide variety of EYCC’s programs while also spending the most quality time with campers.

Apply for Summer Camp Staff Positions

EYCC Instructors are trained to specialize in and lead one program or activity throughout the summer. Programs are designed to be one week with a new batch of campers arriving each Sunday. All training and certifications are provided by EYCC. Check out our instructor specialties below: 

Wildlife Adventurers Instructor: Leads the Wildlife Adventurers program, which focuses on exploring Florida’s terrestrial environment. The program includes bird observation hikes, owl pellet dissections, trail camera use, and other activities centered on Florida’s wildlife. Campers range from 9 to 10 years old.  

Marsh Seekers Instructor: Leads the Marsh Seekers program, which focuses on exploring Florida’s wetland ecosystems.  The program includes an introduction to freshwater fishing, dip netting, and marsh hikes. Campers range from 9 to 10 years old. 

Anglers Instructor: Leads the Anglers program which focuses on freshwater fishing and boating techniques. This program includes an introduction to bowfishing. Campers range from 11 to 12 years old. The angler’s instructor may be required to pass the American Red Cross lifeguarding course if watercraft guards are not available. 

Explorers Instructor: Leads the Explorers program, which focuses on camping skills. The program includes leave no trace practices, knot tying, and an overnight camping trip. Campers range from 11 to 12 years old. 

Pathfinders Instructor: Leads the Pathfinders program which focuses on hunter safety practices. Campers receive range practice with shotguns, rifles, and muzzle loaders. The instructor will undergo a Hunter Safety Instructor training course. Campers range from 12 to 13 years old. 

Outdoor Archers Instructor: Leads the Outdoor Archers program which focuses on archery skills using compound bows. The program includes instruction on release aids, target practice 

on our 3D range, and an introduction to bowhunting. The instructor will undergo an Archery Instructor training course. Campers range from 12 to 13 years old. 

Marine Masters Instructor: Leads the Marine Masters program which focuses on marine exploration and saltwater fishing. The program includes off-site excursions with kayaking, snorkeling, and off-shore fishing experiences. Campers range from 13 to 14 years old. Note: Instructors for this program must have a good driving record and be able to pass the American Red Cross lifeguarding course. 

Leadership Camp Instructor: Supervises the leadership campers and leads the counselor-in-training program. This program prepares participants for future employment at EYCC. The instructor is responsible for creating and implementing participant schedules and performing evaluations for participants of the program. Campers range from 15 to 17 years old. 

Fishing Instructor: Supervisors the rotational fishing area. Ensures that all fishing operations meet safety standards. Teaches campers basic freshwater fishing skills such as knot tying, ethical catch and release, and casting technique. Campers of all ages visit the fishing area (9 -17 years old) 

Archery Instructor: Supervisors the rotational archery program and ensures that the shooting range meets safety standards. Teaches campers basic archery skills such as stance, arrow drawing and handling, and precision. The program uses universal compound bows. The instructor will undergo an Archery Instructor training course. Campers of all ages visit the archery area (9 -17 years old) 

Paddle Sports Instructor: Supervises the rotational paddle sports area and ensures that the waterfront area meets safety standards and initiates games for campers on the water. Teaches campers basic paddling skills such as the different strokes, proper form, and self-rescues. Works directly with the Lifeguards to assist with set up and take down of the waterfront area. The program uses kayaks and canoes. Campers of all ages visit the archery area (9 -17 years old) Note: Instructors for this activity must be able to pass the American Red Cross lifeguarding course.

Lifeguards rotate between supervising swimming and watercraft activities. Applicants who have a current lifeguard certification or previous lifeguarding experience are strongly preferred. Lifeguards must be able to pass the American Red Cross lifeguarding pre-requisite swim test, skills evaluations, assessment scenarios, and written exam. Lifeguards will undergo additional training in rescue techniques for canoes, kayaks, and other watercrafts.

EYCC summer camp Kitchen Assistants oversee the preparation, storage, and serving of food as well as cleaning and dishwashing. EYCC offers a morning shift and an evening shift for prospective employees. EYCC provides Food Protection Manager training and certification for interested applicants.

The EYCC Camp Nurse supervises the health and wellbeing of all camp staff and campers. They are responsible for dispensing medication, maintaining documentation, inspecting equipment, and communicating with parents. The Camp Nurse is on call all throughout the day and night. To qualify for this position, you must be a Registered Nurse.

Volunteer Needs

EYCC has several different program offerings for its participants, including archery, canoeing, fishing, hiking, wetland exploration, bird watching and more. Volunteers are needed to assist with setting up, implementation, and cleanup of these activities.  

Throghout the year, EYCC hosts rental groups and often offers meals for these groups. Volunteers will be trained on how to assist in general kitchen duties, proper cleaning techniques, and how to prepare meals.

EYCC’s facilities and grounds require constant upkeep. Volunteers are needed to assist with custodial cleaning, brush pick up, mowing, weed eating, etc... Our Facilities Manager is grateful for help with small projects like fixing tables and other basic household repairs. 

Volunteer Requirements

Minors, 15 years of age or younger, can volunteer without parent/guardian supervision if physically accompanied by designated leaders as part of an organized group. These groups are responsible for providing written confirmation that parent/legal guardian permission is secured through their organizations prior to volunteer service with the Commission. 

Minors, ages 16 and 17, can volunteer without parent/guardian supervision, but must have written permission from a parent/legal guardian prior to volunteer service. 

Based on s. 110.1127, F.S., volunteers must undergo background screening using Level 1 (s. 435.03, F.S.) or Level 2 (s. 435.04, F.S.) screening standards, as a condition of volunteering or continued volunteering. Volunteers working with children 10 or more hours per month must complete a Level 2 fingerprint screen processed through the AHCA’s Background Clearinghouse Results Portal, and an Affidavit of Good Moral Character.
