Navarre Beach Marine Science Station

The mission of the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station is to promote the appreciation, conservation, and understanding of the marine ecosystem of coastal Florida through education and service. Located at the Navarre Beach Park in Santa Rosa County, the center is the focal point of marine, natural resource and watershed education for Northwest Florida K-12 students, 4-H, and the community.

Kid's Fishin' Day at Maclay

The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park invites the public to bring the family out and participate in this introductory level fishing program. This program is designed to introduce children of all ages to fishing through family interaction. Participants will rotate through a total of six stations. After learning different aspects of freshwater fishing at four stops, children will compete for prizes sponsored by local merchants. Please dress appropriately for a warm morning on the shores of Lake Hall.

19th Annual Tour of Gardens

The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and the Friends of Maclay Gardens, Inc. invite you to attend the 19th Annual Tour of Gardens. The annual tour of privately owned gardens is a fundraising event and a spring tradition for many folks in the area. The day will begin with breakfast at Maclay Gardens at 9:00 a.m. along with a silent auction and plant sale. Participants are then given maps and invited to enjoy a self paced tour of the privately owned gardens in the Tallahassee area. Tickets are $25.00 in advance and $30.00 day of event.

Pine Needle Basket Class

The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park invites the public to attend a pine needle basket class with guest artist Barbara Rosen. Please call (850) 487-4556 to sign up for this program as class size is limited. Participants will meet at the Recreation Area at Lake Hall for this fun Sunday afternoon program. The class is free with paid park entry. Alfred B. Maclay Gardens is located .5 miles north on I-10 on U.S. 319/Thomasville Road. Turn west on Maclay Road. The park is a short distance on the right.

Guided Kayak Paddle on Lake Hall

The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park invites the public to join our staff for a beginner’s morning paddle on Lake Hall. The class is open to ages 7 and above. One adult per child please. Children under the age of 10 must be in a tandem kayak with an adult. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Kayaks are available to rent at the park or you can bring your own. Pre-registration is required for this program. Please call (850) 487-4556 to sign up. The program is free with paid park admission.

Kid's Bird Walk

The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park invites children ages 5-12 to join a Park Ranger for a bird walk on the Lake Overstreet Trails. Adults must accompany the children on the walk. Please dress appropriately and bring insect repellant and binoculars if you own them. We will have some on hand at the park.

Kids' Fishing Clinic - Steinhatchee

Kids' Fishing Clinics are one-day educational events established by the Outreach and Education section of the Division of Marine Fisheries Management, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. One of the main goals for the Kids' Fishing Clinics is to create responsible marine resource stewards by teaching children the vulnerability of Florida's marine ecosystems. In addition, we hope to teach fundamental saltwater fishing skills and to provide kids with a positive fishing experience.
