Winding Waters Natural Area

This One's for the Birds. This 548-acre natural area contains mesic flatwoods, hydric hammock, depression marsh, wet prairie, and dome swamp. Several areas were cleared for agricultural purposes and have been restored to shallow-water and deep-water marshes. Birdlife is abundant with bald eagles, anhingas, green herons, belted kingfishers, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, and loggerhead shrikes making appearances. Bring your kayak or canoe to paddle at this urban wetland.

Snook Islands Natural Area

Creating habitat in a busy city. This 118-acre wetland restoration project created 11 acres of mangroves and 2 acres of oyster reefs within the Lake Worth Lagoon, along the shoreline in downtown Lake Worth. Public use facilities include a boardwalk, kayak launch, and floating dock. Restrooms are available at Bryant Park. Bring your binoculars to see an American oystercatcher, one of the many shorebirds who call these islands "home since" 2005.

Hillsborough River State Park

Hillsborough River State Park provides resource-based recreation while preserving, interrupting and restoring natural and cultural resources. We offer a youth camp for youth organizations to provide a camping experience that fosters the Leave No Trace concepts. We offer Ranger and volunteer-led nature walks, campfire programs and interpretive programing. The park also offers hiking trails, biking trails, canoe rentals, swimming, 112 campsites, primitive camping and fishing.

Tate's Hell State Forest

The Florida Forest Service and specifically the Tate's Hell state forest is located in Franklin County where 80% of the land is public and a large part of the local culture. The staff currently provides outreach to the community through our public use areas which help to instill a conservation ethic and build advocacy with the next generation of Franklin County residents.

Osceola National Forest

The US Forest Service provides the general public with information on land management practices. Osceola National Forest offers many opportunities for a wide range of visitor experiences, such as camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, hunting, riding horse trails, wildlife viewing and many more. Currently the Osceola National Forest offers several youth opportunities, including the Junior Rangers Program, Youth Conservation Core, and others as they become available.
