Girls Inc. is an afterschool and summer program for girls in 1st grade through high school. Our mission is to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold. We do this through our national research based educational programming; STRONG= Healthy Living SMART= Academic Enrichment and Support and BOLD= Life Skills Instruction.
The Calhoun County 4-H Extension Service provides research-based educational programs in the program areas of agriculture, horticulture, family consumer sciences and 4-H youth development. 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential working and learning in partnership with caring adults. Through 4-H, youth are leading a Revolution of Responsibility - a movement for positive change in every community in Calhoun County, Florida.
The purpose of Liberty County 4-H is to develop leadership, character, and good citizenship in America's youth. By emphasizing the development of the Head, Heart, Hands, and Health, 4-H leads youth to produce their best. Adult and youth volunteers lead local school and community 4-H clubs, advising and encouraging club members as they plan and carry out projects. 4-H is open to all youth ages 5 to 18 regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin or handicap and involves urban as well as rural youth.
Situated on the banks of the legendary Suwannee River, this center honors the memory of American composer Stephen Foster, who wrote "Old Folks at Home," the song that made the river famous. The museum features exhibits about Foster's most famous songs and his music can be heard emanating from the park's 97-bell carillon throughout the day. In Craft Square, visitors can
watch demonstrations of quilting, blacksmithing, stained glass making, and
other crafts, or visit the gift shop. Hiking, bicycling, canoeing, and
wildlife viewing are popular activities.
Our mission is to empower youth and expand their possibilities through teaching them to fish and enjoy the outdoors. We give them an opportunity to develop skills and enhance their self-esteem. We also aim to provide exceptional experiences for youth, teaching life skills to stay off drugs, in school and out of gangs. Recently we have added more boating, snorkeling and scuba certification.
Our mission is provide resource based recreation while preserving, interpreting and restoring cultural and natural resources. Manatee Springs State Park is a Florida State Park located six miles west of Chiefland on SR 320, off US 19. Manatee Spring is a first magnitude spring that flows directly into the Suwannee River by way of a short run. Present also are swamps and hardwood wetlands along the Suwannee, along with many sinkhole ponds, including one with a cave 90 feet below the ground that connects to a popular divers' destination known as the catfish hotel.
