To put Judeo Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit mind and body for all. The YMCA was founded in 1884 in England. It came to Chicago in the mid 1850s and is now in over 40 countries. We focus on healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
Highland Recreation Center offers programs, classes, and events for nearly every interest and age. The facility features a three-story indoor playground, 1/13 mile walking track, party rooms, a game room, a licensed preschool for 3-4 year olds, after-school care, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a fitness center, a functional training room, two program rooms, and the tallest municipal water slide in Pinellas County. Our goal is to strengthen the community by creating memorable experiences through education, recreation parks and arts.
The Life Academy campus is a 7 acre facility with tennis courts, a bike track, large playgrounds, 25 yard swimming pool, canoeing pond, ninja course and indoor play areas. The property is family owned and operated and the Life Academy programs are based on 30 years of working with youth in Apollo Beach here at the Apollo Beach Racquet and Fitness Club.
The Riverview and Gibsonton community have enjoyed a brand-new YMCA since January 2019. The Spurlino Family Y is the newest location in the Tampa Y association. The building is LEED Gold Certified and won a design award from the Hillsborough County Planning Commission in Fall 2019. Families can join a reading club for little ones, youth sports and swim lessons for all ages. Adults and kids can enjoy the great outdoors on the walking trail and shaded picnic areas. The Spurlino Family Y is more than a place to work out, it's a place for family fun.
The Bell Creek Nature Preserve is a 477-acre Preserve located east of McMullen Road, south of Boyette Road in Riverview. The trail system passes though different habitat areas, including scrub habitat with endangered Florida golden aster. There is also a new classroom for outdoor education, programs, an habitat education garden, and a lake that provides a setting for kayaking lessons.
The mission of TASCO Teen Fishing Club is to provide an opportunity for teens to participate in a no-fee program that will teach them the art of fishing, conservation, and promoting marine stewardship with emphasis on safety. The TASCO Teen Fishing Club uses fishing to build youth's self-esteem and self-confidence, working to ensure that every child gets an opportunity to experience the thrill of sport fishing and a basic introduction in the marine sciences.
The Band of Brothers is a fellowship of men of all ages, young and old. Our mission is to help men grow in their faith and character. We do this through developing relationships to encourage, support, and mentor others. This is done through study, public service, and fellowship opportunities (i.e., archery). Band of Brothers fellowship and study opportunities vary from month to month. We have offered a variety of outdoors activities archery, corn hole, golf, paintball, camping, fishing, axe throwing, and more.
Our Mission is to provide a year round program that helps Inner City Youth with mentorships in school and access to outdoor activities to keep them out of trouble, off the streets and to see them advance in life. Our activities cover fishing, archery, boating, camping and hunting. Our ages are 8 years old to 18 years old and it is for boys and girls.
