Explore Bowhunting Workshop

The Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network is partnering with St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to host an Explore Bowhunting workshop. Explore Bowhunting is an educational program designed to help instructors, program leaders and educators teach students ages 11-17 the basic skills of bowhunting. The Archery Trade Association has created this program to spark an interest and passion for bowhunting in today’s youth.

Kids' Fishing Clinic - Steinhatchee

Kids' Fishing Clinics are one-day educational events established by the Outreach and Education section of the Division of Marine Fisheries Management, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. One of the main goals for the Kids' Fishing Clinics is to create responsible marine resource stewards by teaching children the vulnerability of Florida's marine ecosystems. In addition, we hope to teach fundamental saltwater fishing skills and to provide kids with a positive fishing experience.

For, fun, healthy exercise, camaraderie, and the satisfaction of doing something good for the environment, come participate in this event, which is part of a series of sessions for everyone--all ages--interested in the outdoors. Learn about the problem of invasive plants, with a particular focus on Coral ardisia, which is currently smothering much of the understory of this beautiful park and many other areas throughout Florida and Georgia. In the field you will learn how to identify and remove this plant and actually remove some of it in a small designated area.

Help “Seek & Destroy” Coral Ardisia

This all-day event (9:30 to 4:00), organized by the Florida Trail Association and the Florida Native Plant Society will involve removing Coral ardisia plants that threaten native plants around this historic house (http://www.preservespringhouse.org/). Work will vary from gentle to vigorous, depending on your ability and zeal. Food and beverages will be provided throughout the day. Bring bug spray and your own water bottle. Some tools provided, but it please bring clippers, a pointed shovel, and gardening-type gloves, if you have them.
