Millions of Americans enjoy target shooting, whether it’s archery, plinking with a .22 caliber, shooting sporting clays, or hunting. These activities are collectively known as shooting sports.

Target shooting and hunting are lifetime sports for many people, with the training needed to become safe and successful requiring both physical and mental discipline. As participants improve their skills through practice, they also gain a sense of accomplishment and responsibility. Other youth development lessons from shooting sports include sportsmanship, teamwork, patience, and ethical conservation.
